Welcome the Monarchs October 2017

The Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove is one of only five sites in the state that has counts of over 10,000. Each year thousands of vibrant orange and black Monarch Butterflies flock to Pismo Beach, seeking shelter from the freezing northern winters. From late October to February, the butterflies cluster in the limbs of a grove of Eucalyptus trees at Pismo State Beach. The grove is easily accessible and is located on CA State Highway 1 at the south boundary of the city limits of Pismo Beach.

Migrating Wildlife

With over 26 miles of pristine coastline throughout our rich natural world, you can kayak or SUP along outstanding vistas of rugged coastline and oceanic caves nestled beneath palisades accompanied by migrating marine life such as dolphins, whales, and sea otters and numerous bird species including warblers and adorable snowy plovers.  Ride horseback along white sandy shorelines and a riparian estuary flanked by majestic Eucalyptus trees, home to our famous Monarch Butterfly Grove.
