My first post!

Hello travelers!Thea

My name is Thea and I’m here to inspire you to go out and experience all that Pismo Beach has to offer.  Since I am new to the area, I thought it would be fun to document my experiences and share them with travelers, or refresh local minds of the fun things that happen every day in their own backyards.

When I moved to San Luis Obispo from the East Coast this summer, I did not know what to expect.  What I found was a beautiful town settled in the hills of California, far different from my small New Jersey town.  I was eager to settle into my house and start my internship in Pismo Beach, not knowing what I would find.

When I took the bus to Pismo that first day I was a little bummed, I had no car and was stuck taking the bus every day.  My spirits were instantly lifted, however, once the view of the ocean came into sight from the 101.  I couldn’t believe how lucky I was!  My office was practically on the beach with an ocean view from my window, and I was only an intern.  I couldn’t help but laugh as I thought of my friends stuck in their cubicles in New York City.

I quickly realized that Pismo had a lot to offer, and that I should start exploring as soon as possible.  As I said before, this blog will share my experiences in Pismo and hopefully inspire travelers to get out and experience some of the cool things Pismo has to offer!

Until next time!

Oso Flaco Lake & Dunes Walk

A little known jewel of the Central Coast and just 15 miles south of Pismo Beach. Oso Flaco Lake is located at the south end of the Pismo Dunes Natural Preserve. The trail starts as a dirt path and then crosses a footbridge over the 75-acre lake and wetlands preserve. This freshwater lake is a great place for watching birds and wildlife. After crossing the lake,  a wooden boardwalk leads through the Nipomo Dunes. See rare plants and birds, as well as protected sand dunes.

Most Wednesdays, Saturdays & Sundays, enjoy guided walks thru the Oso Flaco Lake Natural Area, part of the Guadelupe – Nipomo Dunes Preserve. Many guided walks given on various days. More info.
