World of Pinot Noir

Mark your calendars for  March 2 & 3.

The  12th Annual World of Pinot Noir  features events that have become WOPN favorites, such as the two  Grand Tastings By The Sea  on Friday and Saturday afternoons, a traditional seminar and pairing on Friday and our always-popular Burgundy Seminar on Saturday. But 2012 also sees new events – Friday night you can choose between a vintage Burgundian Dinner or a  Seaside Fête  on Avila Beach, Saturday daytime choices include  Pinot Adventure Camp  - kayaking, hiking or golf with winemakers, followed by lunch with Pinot Noir and Saturday evening is highlighted by dinner at five select Central Coast restaurants, with winemakers sharing their wines and stories. Enjoy Worldwide Pinot Noir, complemented by fresh, locally produced, creative cuisine at the World of Pinot Noir on March 2nd  and 3rd  2012 at the Cliffs Resort in Shell Beach, Ca.

Monarch Butterfly Grove Update

Not too late to the see the Monarchs. The season is winding down for this year, but we still have 20,000+ Monarchs in the grove. They will be packing up by the end of the month.  Last Saturday saw the  California Western Monarch Day at the grove and was well attended. The Monarchs put on a great show.

If you have missed this season we hope you will put it on your Bucket List for next year.

Plans are in place for a joyful celebration of Western Monarch Day at the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove. There will be butterfly talks and educational booths for adults, as well as art activities for children.  The main attraction, however, is the thousands of Monarchs hanging in huge clusters from the eucalyptus and pine trees in the grove. The grove will remain open through the month of February from 10am-4pm with docents providing daily talks at 11am and 2pm. For more information, please visit www.MonarchButterfly.org.

January 28-29: 5th Annual Model Railroad Day

Local train buffs, modelers, historians and kids of all ages are encouraged to attend this year’s Model Railroad Day celebration. This popular free community event will run from 10am-4pm at the historic Oceano Depot. The San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association (SLOMRA) will display a wide variety of operating model trains and the entire Depot will be open to display its unique artifacts from Oceano and the adjacent railroad. Monarch Butterfly Grove Update

This past week the monarch count increased to 23,000.  This should be about the height of the count for this season. It usually happens about this time in January.
